Humanizing Design

HDW 2019 will take the theme of Humanising Design as its focus, inspired by the WDO’s efforts to demonstrate the power of design to reach the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. Through this program, HDW seeks to enhance the perception of design for India and for people to better understand the human aspect of good design - how it enables people live in harmony with their environments.

The five-day program will be made up of events covering a range of design disciplines including architecture, product, graphic design, sustainable fashion, and urban design - the majority of which will be free to attend and accessible for both industry and public. Key components will include an international design conference curated by India Design Forum, networking dinners at historic Falaknuma and Chowmahalla Palaces, a sustainable fashion show, and an education conference, as well as a large number of installations, workshops, and exhibitions - soon to be announced.

The World Design Organization (WDO)™, formerly the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design (Icsid), is an international non-governmental organization founded in 1957 to promote the profession of industrial design. WDO advocates industrial design driven innovation that creates a better world, engaging more than 150 member organizations in collaborative efforts and carrying out international programming-World Design Capital®, World Design Talks™, World Design Impact Prize, World Industrial Design Day™, and Interdesign™. WDO has United Nations Special Consultative Status.

IDF brings together eminent Indian and international design practitioners and thought-leaders to speak about the most impactful developments in design today. It was the first organisation in South Asia to offer a global discourse on design and it has an international reputation as India's most pioneering design platform. IDF was invited by the Government of India to hold a design program for Make in India Week and has represented Indian design at major international design fairs, festivals, and biennales, including London Design Biennale, London Design Festival, and Singapore Design Week.
