Hosted by the Government of Telangana, the inaugural edition of Hyderabad Design Week (HDW) will be held in partnership with India Design Forum (IDF) and the World Design Organisation (WDO), creating an international-scale platform that seeks to enable dynamic exchange and creative collaborations; showcase the best of the region’s talent; and foster development through design, as well as increase public awareness and appreciation of all aspects of design.
Through the design week. Hyderabad will play host to the WDO’s 31st Assembly, making it the first ever Indian city to host the World Design Assembly.
HDW 2019 will take the theme of Humanising Design as its focus, inspired by the WDO’s efforts to demonstrate the power of design to reach the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. Through this program, HDW seeks to enhance the perception of design for India and for people to better understand the human aspect of good design - how it enables people live in harmony with their environments.
The five-day program will be made up of events covering a range of design disciplines including architecture, product, graphic design, sustainable fashion, and urban design - the majority of which will be free to attend and accessible for both industry and public. Key components will include an international design conference curated by India Design Forum, networking dinners at historic Falaknuma and Chowmahalla Palaces, a sustainable fashion show, and an education conference, as well as a large number of installations, workshops, and exhibitions - soon to be announced.
